Golden Goblin Press is proud to unveil the cover for our third release, De Horrore Cosmico. The Kickstarter Campaign for this begins on September 12th, 2014 with a projected delivery date of April 25th, 2015. We have many exciting stretch goals planned for this campaign but first, let’s take a closer look at the core book.

De Horrore Cosmico (or The Cosmic Horror) is a collection of six scenarios for the Cthulhu Invictus setting. The cosmic horror of the Cthulhu Mythos is not new to mankind. Long before the founding of Miskatonic University or stones were erected upon Sentinel Hill, brave investigators living in the Roman Empire struggled against dark forces beyond human understanding.

Each scenario of De Horrore Cosmico explores a classic theme of cosmic horror as told during the time of the Roman Empire. Our scenarios feature ancient wizards returning to life, unwholesome heritage, blasphemous cults, alien entities, and secrets so dark they can shatter one’s grip on sanity. Each scenario is inspired by one or more famous stories written of H. P. Lovecraft and is written by team of seasoned authors (and one masterful newcomer).

Scenario Descriptions (May Contain Spoilers)

Doom, by Chad Bowser – A mysterious hooded foreigner skulks about the city of Rome, bringing vengeance and devastation as horrific nightmares suddenly become real. Can the investigators stop him in time? Scenario inspired by The Doom That Came to Sarnath.

Kith and Kine (Friends and Cattle), by Phredd Groves – The investigators travel into the wilds of Britannia in an attempt to settle a tribal dispute. However blasphemous accusations, sinister cults, voices whispering from the darkness and deformed abominations complicate the matter. Scenario inspired by The Rats in the Walls and Whisperer in the Darkness.

The Case of Tillius Sempronius Orestes, by Penelope Love and Mark Morrison – The investigators are called to check on a wealthy patrician’s son as he convalesces at their country estate. The young man hadn’t been well for some time and then suffered a fit which robbed much of his memory. Rumors of madness, murder and dark magic abound. Scenario inspired by The Case of Charles Dexter Ward.

The Devil’s Mouth, by Stuart Boon – The investigators travel beyond the borders of the Empire to the farthest edge of the known world. There in the highlands of Caledonia (current day Scottland) they face savage Picts and a cold, alien intelligence. Dark adventure, sinister plots and ruins older than mankind await. Scenario inspired by At the Mountains of Madness.

The Vetting of Marius Asina, by Jeffrey Moeller – Investigators travel to the city of Massalia in the province of Gallia Narbonensis (current day south of France) to probe into the background of a Marius Asina, a mysterious man who rose from lowly origins to fabulous wealth and senatorial rank. He seeks even further elevation but before granting their support (or imposing their opposition) powerful people wish to know more about him, especially the dark rumors concerning his children. Scenario inspired by Facts Concerning the Late Arthur Jermyn and His Family.

Murmillo, by Oscar Rios – When the son of a wealthy patrician defies his father to follow his dream of becoming a gladiator the investigators are hired to bring him home. His actions, if made public, would bring much shame to his family. Finding young Surus won’t be easy as his trail leads to Ludus Murma, a mysterious gladiator training school known for producing the finest Murmillo (or “Fish Men”) in the Empire. Ludus Murma values its privacy; as they have MANY secrets to protect. Scenario inspired by The Shadow Over Innsmouth.
